NETI participants develop their professional skills within the relevant programming/management functional areas in UNICEF. Examples of these areas are:

5. What is the required language proficiency for the NETI Programme?
As stated in the general requirements to apply, candidates must have proficiency in English and in at least one other UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish. Knowledge of the local language at the duty station of the respective position might be considered an asset.
Applicants have an opportunity to state different language proficiencies when completing the UNICEF online application. If short-listed, the candidate's stated proficiency is corroborated during the selection process.
Language proficiency is key for global deployment and effective performance in the field.
6. What are the educational requirements for the NETI Programme?
Candidates must have completed an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) at the time of application. Any number of years of relevant professional experience is not substitute for the required educational qualifications.
The expectation of UNICEF as an employer is that university degrees presented by applicants satisfy the required level of education and come from bona fide (accredited) academic institutions. Only degrees from accredited institutions are considered legitimate for purposes of recruitment and selection for posts at UNICEF. Degrees requiring little or no actual course work, degrees awarded for payment of fees only, and degrees granting substantial credits for “lifetime achievements” or “life/work experience” will normally not be recognized by UNICEF.
When determining whether a degree is recognized, UNICEF is guided by the International Association of Universities’ (IAU) listing of higher education institutions recognized or otherwise approved by competent authorities in participating countries. UNICEF will normally recognize only degrees obtained from institutions on the IAU list, however, the validity of other degrees submitted by applicants under consideration would be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Incomplete degrees are unacceptable to UNICEF as proof of academic qualification, regardless of whether they are associated with a recognized higher education institution.
7. What is the work experience requirement for the NETI Programme?
Candidates are required to have at least two years of relevant work experience for functions at the P-2 level, and at least five years of relevant work experience for functions at the P-3 level. Relevant experience should include work in developing countries and in multicultural environments.
8. What happens upon completion of the NETI Programme?
Since merit and performance are the key features of the NETI Programme, a rigorous and continued assessment process takes place throughout the work assignment. At the end of the first year and based on a performance review, NETI participants are extended for a second year in their specific duty station or, if necessary, separated from the NETI Programme. After about 18 months from their initial appointment, a performance review panel is held. This final review includes a comprehensive evaluation where participants’ overall performance in the NETI Programme is reviewed, and their suitability to be included into Talent Groups and to be given priority consideration for vacant positions is also determined.
9. Can I meet/interview with someone to discuss my application / CV / P11 (UN Personal History form)?
In order to guarantee equal treatment and objectivity for all candidates, the New and Emerging Talent Initiative’s Programme staff does not grant interviews and does not provide profile advice at any point during the application process.

10. If I apply and am not selected for this round of recruitment for the NETI Programme, can I reapply in the future?
If you have applied previously and were not selected, you are welcome to re-apply in the next recruitment period. Selection for the NETI Programme is related to critical talent gaps needed in the organisation to achieve its current and future goals.
11. Is it required that applicants be within a specific age range to apply for the NETI Programme?
As the NETI Programme is for young professionals, preference will be given to candidates who are under 35 years of age.
12. What is the professional level of the appointment?
The NETI appointment type is a fixed term contract for the duration of 1 year, with a possible extension of a second year. The level of appointment is specified in the vacancy announcement. As a general indication, P-2 level appointments require a minimum of 2 years of professional experience and P-3 level appointments require at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
13. What salary and benefits are provided to NETI participants?
The salary for each NETI participant is dependent on their educational background, relevant professional experience, and specific allowances related to their assigned duty station. 14. Can my family come with me? Will they be extended full benefits?

15. What do I do if I have problems with the online application?

16. What is a Talent Group?
Talent Groups are rosters of internal and external candidates who have undergone a competitive selection and assessment process that was reviewed by UNICEF's Central Review Body (CRB).
